  • Turistica is keeping up with global trends in tourism

Our educators keep a close eye on trends in urban development centres and transfer them to their teaching practises. Last week, our colleague, M.Sc. Miha Bratec, visited Vienna. As an invited expert from the field of tourism research, he was invited by the Biotechal Faculty UL to participate in a panel discussion at the final event of the Spot project, funded by the prestigious EU research programme Horizon 2020, dedicated to analysing and improving the conception of urban tourism in Europe.

Miha presented the preliminary results of the research conducted as part of the "sister" project SMARTDEST, also funded by the Horizon 2020 programme, in which the team of UP FTŠ Turistica is studying the impact of tourism development and looking for smart solutions for its efficient management in Ljubljana

Miha not only established new research contacts with leading European researchers in the field of urban tourism, but also participated in Forum 196, which was held simultaneously in Vienna. This is the largest gathering of investors and experts in hotel real estate and project development, organised by PKF Consulting and the Vienna Tourism Organisation. At the event, which ended with a gala dinner at the Vienna City Hall, the most innovative hotel chains were awarded, as part of a rich programme that presented the latest global trends in hotel product design.

In keeping with the times, the main criterion for selecting this year's winners was innovation in human resources development. This year, a lesser known and smaller German hotel chain called Seminaris Hotels came out on top.
