Since 2013, Slovenian Philanthropy, on behalf of the Slovenian Network of Volunteer Organizations, has been organising a competition for the recognition of the Best Volunteers employed in public administration. With this recognition, they aim to highlight the employees in public administration who engage in volunteer work in their free time and contribute to promoting volunteerism among their colleagues in the public sector. These individuals, due to their knowledge and experience, can make a significant contribution to the volunteer sector. The selection process takes place among candidates who participate in volunteer projects, actively respond to community needs, and have a positive impact on it.

The title of BEST VOLUNTEER EMPLOYEE IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION for the year 2022 was awarded to Tadej Rogelja, out colleague and assistant at UP FTŠ Turistica. He was nominated by the University of Primorska.

As a volunteer, Tadej Rogelja participates in numerous volunteer projects with organizations such as the Sports Cultural Tourism Association Farjovca, Civil Protection, Komen Wind Orchestra, Temnica Caving Club, and the The Tourist Board of Miren-Kostanjevica Municipality. In 2022, his most notable volunteer contribution was during the extinguishing of the largest forest fire in the history of Slovenia, where over 2,000 hectares of forest and meadow areas were burned. As part of this effort, he assisted in clearing paths, directing firefighters, delivering and distributing food and drinks, and providing other logistical support. He demonstrated a high level of commitment, responsibility, compassion, knowledge, and willingness to help.

He passes on these values to students and colleagues, encouraging them to actively engage in volunteer activities. In 2022, he completed 1,100 hours of volunteer work.

On the occasion of receiving the award, he said, "It is truly inspiring to be a volunteer. It is not only about helping others, but also about personal growth, development, and expressing your interests. You learn to appreciate things you might not have before. Volunteering teaches you humility, empathy and caring for your fellow man (especially in an age of capitalism, limited social contacts, etc.). I remember the best moments from my volunteer activities."

We congratulate Tadej and are extremely proud of him!
