At Turistica, we have opened an exhibition on the topic of blockchain technologies in tourism titled "Tourism on the Blockchain: Innovation or a New Illusion of User Experience." This provocatively designed overview exhibition covers pioneering projects of blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence by domestic and international tourist organizations.

Tourism is rapidly transitioning from traditional personal services into an information-intensive industry. While we have well-developed e-tourism with the help of the internet in recent decades, the use of blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence is opening new opportunities and challenges for all participants in tourism. On one hand, they bring advantages to companies and enhance consumer experiences, but on the other hand, they present pitfalls in terms of security and regulation for providers and users alike. The exhibition supports faculty research projects in this field and raises awareness about the importance of understanding, accepting, and safely using modern technologies.

The exhibition showcases pioneering projects utilizing blockchain technology with NFT tokens, already in use in domestic and global tourism companies and organizations. Among them are the Tourist Board of Portorož, the Slovenian Tourist Board, the airline company Air Baltic, and others that have developed blockchain to develop new forms of tourist tickets, loyalty programs, souvenirs, and even digital art.

The exhibition will be held in the Hall of Turistica (ground floor of the Faculty of Tourism Studies, Obala 11a, Portorož) until January 20, 2024. If you cannot attend the exhibition in person, you can view it virtually through the sTOUdioVerse

The curator of the exhibition is our Master's student Jaka Godejša.
