TARGETED RESEARCH PROJECTS (ARIS)

Survey of congress guests, their habits and consumption in Slovenia (KONGOST) lead and partner organisation, headed by UP FTŠ Turistica (headed by Dr. Marko Kukanja), partner UP FM (Dr. Štefan Bojnec)

Within the project, we will investigate the characteristics, habits and motivational factors of congress guests/attendees for visiting meetings and destinations and explore the content and scope of their consumption in four selected congress destinations (Bled, Ljubljana, Portorož and Maribor), according to the three main segments of congress organisers and the four basic types of business meetings. The aim of the research is to formulate guidelines for the development of congress products in selected destinations, to profile congress guests in terms of their consumption and habits, and to identify opportunities for the sustainable development of congress activities in Slovenia, thus contributing to the implementation of the Tourism Development Strategy for Slovenia 2022-2028, under Strand 7.1.1.

The project foresees the participation of partners from UM EPF, UL EF and UL FDV and UP FM, depending on the content subfield of the research. In addition, a Consultative Committee will be formed, which will include representatives of DMOs at the national level (KUS, STO), individual destinations (KUL, TZP, ZT Bled, ZT Maribor) and other professional organisations.

Impact of major international sport events on GDP or other key socio-economic and financial indicators (headed by, Dr. Maja Zalaznik, UL); partner UP FTŠ Turistica (Dr. Miha Lesjak); CRP

Impact of major international sport events on GDP or other key socio-economic and financial indicators (leader, Dr. Maja Zalaznik, UL); partner UP FTŠ Turistica (Dr. Miha Lesjak); CRP

The project is designed to identify the effects of major international sport events on GDP and other key socio-economic indicators as comprehensively as possible. Therefore, an analysis of the status of major international sport events and an analysis of the potential of major international sport events in Slovenia will be carried out first. In addition, we will review the way in which major international sport events have been financed to date and propose a financing model for major international sport events.

The project will propose a way to measure the economic impact of major international sport events, in particular on consumption, spending and thus on GDP, taxes, employment, investment and exports. At the same time, we will design a way to measure or estimate the multiplier effects of major international sport events. The satellite accounts methodology for sport (Farčnik, Knežević Cvelbar, Pahor and Zalaznik, 2021) will be used to monitor the contribution of major international sport events to GDP, employment and taxes and to calculate the multiplier.

The project involves partners from UL EF, UL FŠ and UP FTŠ Turistica.
